TRIHEALTH GOOD SAMARITAN HOSPITAL
NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
Cincinnati, Ohio
The Good Samaritan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit serves needs of high-risk infants. The Department needed to expand it's services, and wished to increase capacity by an additional ten patient care stations. PFB renovated several staff spaces to provide two new "Co-Bedding" units, and renovated an existing breast feeding room to provide two private patient care stations. The Co-Bedding units each have provisions for four patient care stations, but are equipped to handle multiple siblings. The design of the spaces considered the ambient noise and light, as well as privacy of the families, while encouraging community interaction within the NICU unit. Through design consultation with the nursing staff, we were able to design intricate headwall units, providing the required mutiple medical gas and electrical outlets in a manner that best meets the needs of those caring for these frail infants.
